How the 2176 Mission, the Humanity Question, sign-ups and pledges handle your information · October 2026
What we collect, and what we don't
- Visiting the site. We count visits and trailer plays ourselves — no advertising or analytics companies, no cookies. We record the page, the country and state/region your connection comes from, and where you arrived from (for example a campaign link). We do not store your IP address. To count unique visitors we use a code that changes every day and cannot be traced back to you.
- The 2176 Mission and the Humanity Question. Anonymous. We keep your answers and result, which of the buttons after the mission you pressed, the country/region, and a random code your browser keeps so the poll can be answered only once. No name, no email, no birth date.
- Joining the mission or pledging. Only what you type: your email, and if you choose, your name, location and number of tickets. We note the date you confirmed you are 13 or older.
- “I want to see We Are Mars in theaters!” after the mission. This form is voluntary and separate from the mission. It asks for your full name, email and number of tickets (1 to 10), and, only if you want, your city and state. We note that it came from the 2176 Mission, the time, and whether you ticked the separate email box. If you press it again with the same email, your new number replaces the old one — you are still counted once.
- Your answers are never linked to you unless you tick the box to add your mission profile or poll answer when you sign up or tell us your ticket interest. If you make a ticket pledge in the same visit as finishing the mission, we note only that fact (yes or no) on the pledge — never your answers.
We only email you if you tick the separate box agreeing to it, and we record the date and the exact wording you agreed to. Every email will have an unsubscribe link, and you can unsubscribe here at any time.
Pledges
A pledge is an expression of interest. It is not a purchase, a reservation or a financial obligation. We use pledge totals to show theaters where audiences are. Submitting ticket interest never signs you up for email: that is a separate, unticked box.
Children
The mission and the poll collect no personal information from anyone, and nobody has to say how old they are to play. Signing up and pledging are for people aged 13 and over; we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us their details, contact us and we will delete them.
How long we keep it
- Individual visit records: 60 days, then only daily totals.
- The daily counting code: deleted the next day.
- Anonymous mission and poll answers: for the life of the campaign.
- Your sign-up: until you ask us to delete it, or 24 months after your last activity if you have not agreed to emails.
Sharing
We do not sell your information and we do not share it with other companies. A small team of We Are Mars administrators can see sign-ups; every export is logged with a reason. We would ask for your permission before sharing your details with any partner.
Your choices
You can ask for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Use the form below; we act within 30 days and may write to the address to confirm it is yours.
